WeatherTrigger is owned and operated by Plankton Digital Pty Ltd (ABN 42 110 801 279), 2 Willis Lane, Hampton VIC 3188, Australia (“we”, “us”). It lets advertisers turn their Meta ad sets on or off, or scale their budgets, automatically with the weather at a location they choose. This policy covers this website (weathertrigger.com) and the app (app.weathertrigger.com): what we collect, why, who else receives it, and what control you have. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and, for data we receive from Meta, the Meta Platform Terms.

What we collect

On this website

Forms. If you apply for the pilot, we store your name, email, business name, trade, city and who runs your ads. If you use the contact form we store your name, email and message, and if you subscribe we store your email. With each form we also record your IP address and browser details to block spam. We use these details only to reply to you, assess your application and run the pilot, or send the updates you asked for.

Analytics and advertising. We use Google Analytics on this site and in the app to understand how people use them: which pages they visit, which buttons they click, and whether they go on to sign up, start a trial, connect Meta and create a rule. When we run ads on Facebook and Instagram, we also use the Meta Pixel, which tells Meta when someone visits a page or submits our pilot application form, and in the app when someone creates an account or starts a free trial. Meta uses this to measure our ads and show them to people likely to be interested. Both services set cookies and receive technical information such as your IP address, browser and the pages you view. You can control ad personalisation in your Facebook and Instagram ad settings.

In the app

Your account. Name, email address and a hashed password when you register. We never store your password in readable form.

Your Meta connection. When you connect Meta Ads through Facebook Login for Business, Meta gives us an access token together with your Facebook user ID and name, the business portfolio, ad accounts and Facebook Pages you chose to share, and for those ad accounts the names, IDs, delivery status and daily budgets of campaigns and ad sets. We request four permissions:

  • ads_read, to list your ad accounts, campaigns and ad sets and read an ad set’s status and budget;
  • ads_management, to set an ad set’s status to active or paused, and to change its daily budget when a rule you created scales budget with the weather;
  • pages_show_list, so you can choose the Page your ads run from, and so we can read the names and IDs of the Pages you shared;
  • pages_manage_ads, because Meta only lets an app turn an ad set on if it has an advertising role on the Page the ads run from. Without it, Meta pauses your ads the first time a rule turns them on.

We never post to your Page, create or edit ads, posts or Page content, or read Page messages, comments, followers or insights. We do not request or store ad insights, audiences, creative, ad content, billing details or anything about your Facebook friends.

Your rules. The weather location you choose (place name and coordinates), the weather conditions, the ad sets each rule controls, and a log of every check the rule ran: the weather data used, whether the condition was met, and any status or budget change we wrote to Meta.

Technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, browser, request path, time) kept for security and debugging. The app keeps your sign-in token in your browser’s local storage. We do not run advertising trackers in the app.

How we use it

  • To run your rules: fetch the weather for your locations, evaluate your conditions, and pause, resume or scale the budget of the ad sets you selected.
  • To show you what happened: your dashboard, rule pages and execution history.
  • To operate the service: sign-in, support, security, and billing when a paid plan is active.
  • To email you about your account or rules, including a few setup reminders in your first days and a notice before a free trial ends. Every setup reminder has a link to turn them off. We do not send marketing email to app users without consent.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your ad data for anything other than running the rules you created.

Who else receives data

  • Meta Platforms. In the app, we send status and budget changes for the ad sets you selected and read the ad and Page data described above, using your access token. On this website and in the app, the Meta Pixel sends Meta the visit, form-submission, sign-up and trial events described above.
  • Google. Google Analytics receives website and app usage data. In the app, when you search for a location, the text you type is sent from your browser to Google Places to suggest places.
  • OpenWeather. We send the coordinates of your rule locations to fetch forecasts. No account or ad data is sent.
  • Amazon Web Services. We send notification emails, including our own alerts about new form submissions, through Amazon SES.
  • Stripe. When paid plans are enabled, Stripe processes card payments; we never see your full card number.
  • Hosting. Our servers and database run on DigitalOcean in Sydney, Australia.

We share data with these providers only to the extent needed to provide the service. We disclose personal information to authorities only where the law requires it.

Storage, security and retention

Data is stored in our database in Sydney, Australia, with access restricted to the people who operate the service. Traffic to and from the site and the app is encrypted (HTTPS). Meta access tokens are stored so your rules can keep running while you are not signed in; you can revoke them at any time (see below).

We keep your account, rules and execution history while your account exists; deleting a rule deletes its history. Form submissions are kept while we are in contact with you and deleted on request. When you delete your account, it is removed from our live database straight away, and from backups within 30 days, except records we must keep for tax or legal reasons.

Your choices and rights

  • See and change your data. Your name, email, rules and history are visible and editable in the app.
  • Disconnect Meta. Integrations → Disconnect removes the stored access token, ad account and Page data. You can also remove WeatherTrigger in Meta Business Settings under Integrations → Connected apps, or from your Facebook account under Settings → Business Integrations, which invalidates the token on Meta’s side.
  • Delete your account. Settings → Delete account removes your account, rules, execution history and Meta connection. Details are on our data deletion page.
  • Access or correct information, or complain. Contact us (below). If you are not satisfied with our response you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). If you are in the EU or UK, you have the rights set out in the GDPR, including access, correction, erasure, portability and objection, and you can contact your local supervisory authority.
